My Woman Crush Wednesday goes out to Christie Brinkley, American model and actress who graced Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue’s cover 3 times in the 80s with her athletic yet curvaceous figure. She celebrated her 61st birthday (can you believe it?) this past weekend and exudes the term “aging gracefully”. Unlike most starlets, she credits her timeless looks to some basic anti aging secrets, NOT plastic surgery. She has laugh lines around her mouth and eyes, which don’t define her age, moreover her happiness. I highlight some her anti aging secrets below.

WEAR SPF DAILY

And I couldn’t agree more! I said it in my Most Important Anti Aging Product Ever post and reiterated it in my Anti Aging Must Dos: My Top 5 post. She swears by SPF and doesn’t leave the house without wearing sunscreen.

DON’T YO-YO DIET

A major cause of aging is losing and gaining weight, since it stretches the skin and causes it to lose elastin. Christie has stayed in great shape by leading a healthy lifestyle. She’s been a vegetarian since she was 12 years old and her biggest indulgence is a private chef who specializes in healthy cooking. Her breakfast is typically steel cut oats, topped with flaxseed and loaded with blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. Lunch and dinner consists of veggies, lentils, beans, fiber – all the good stuff your body needs. When she’s snacky, she’ll munch on nuts, pumpkin seeds and fruits and stays hydrated throughout the day with water or coconut water if she’s having a sweet craving. She does indulge in chocolate and ice cream from time to time and believes it’s necessary so you don’t crash and burn.

She switches up her workout regime so that she doesn’t get bored which consists of yoga, swimming, paddleboarding, surfing, skiing and weight training.

EXFOLIATE DAILY

She credits her great skin to exfoliating daily. In an interview with People Magazine, she told them,

“I’ve done it since I read that guys look five years younger because they shave”.

This makes sense because most men’s cheeks look better than the rest of their skin – because shaving is exfoliating their skin and making it more youthful. One of my favorite current go to exfoliators are Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Pads.

MAKE UP/HAIR TIPS

After three pregnancies, her hair has thinned out, so she adds volume using clip in extensions. To give her make up a flawless finish, she uses primer to fill in her lines so the make up applies on smoothly. Not all primers are made identical and vary based on your skin’s needs. There are specific primers out there for dry or oily skin, aging skin and for acne scars. I recommend going to Sephora and getting a few samples to see which primer suits you the best.

BE PROACTIVE

She goes and sees a dermatologist as soon as she starts seeing visible signs of aging. Instead of waiting until she has 30 sun spots on her face, she stays on top of it goes when she sees one. The same notion should apply with your skin care routine, like if you start seeing wrinkling, up the potency of your night cream to prevent further visible signs of aging.
